ROOTED IN NAIJA

Connecting young adults of the African diaspora with their ancestral heritage and cultural roots.

About the Program

Rooted in Naija is a 501c3 non-profit organization.

Established in 2025, we are dedicated to empowering the next generation of young people in the African diaspora by fostering a strong sense of identity and belonging. Our mission is to provide young adults with meaningful opportunities to explore, engage, and reconnect with their heritage in ways that strengthen both personal growth and cultural pride.
Through our signature heritage trip, participants embark on an immersive journey that highlights the richness and complexity of African culture. The program is designed to offer an authentic experience that blends history, tradition, and contemporary life. From learning about Africa’s ancient civilizations and vibrant artistic traditions, to exploring its modern innovations, cuisine, and diverse communities, participants gain a holistic understanding of the continent’s past and present.

This transformative experience is made possible through the generosity of individual donors who share our vision of cultural preservation and global connection. Their support allows us to open doors for young adults of the diaspora, giving them the chance to not only deepen their connection to their ancestry but also to build lasting relationships with the people and communities they encounter along the way.

Our hope is that Rooted in Naija inspires participants to embrace their African heritage with pride, invest in their country of origin, and carry forward lifelong bonds that transcend borders. By nurturing identity and strengthening community ties, we aim to create a future where young people of the diaspora feel rooted, empowered, and engaged in shaping a more connected world.

What They Say

‘The objectives behind the ‘Rooted in Naija’ initiative has me really excited. The positive social outcome and overall impact of programs of this nature cannot be overstated. It is definitely an activity I would recommend or subscribe to.’
Dr Olumide Sojinrin
Medical Director/CEO, General Hospital Surulere, Lagos State.
‘Rooted in Naija is an incredible concept. It’s a concept that aims to connect young people in the diaspora with their roots and their culture in Nigerian and West Africa. I'm so pleased that this idea is coming to life. It’s long overdue and I believe that it's going to reap rewards for everyone involved. The young people in diaspora will know their historical roots, they will understand their culture better, and develop a love and concern for their country of origin. Hopefully, as they mature and grow they will also develop an interest in investing in their country of origin. Nigeria will also benefit from understanding the challenges and the perspective that young Nigerians in diaspora are facing, and hopefully this will bring about a better relationship between our young people and their country of origin, an understanding and an awareness of how important they are, and how great Nigeria is and can be and will be.’
Professor Sope Williams
Head of the Department of Mercantile Law, Deputy Director of the African Procurement Law Unit, Stellenbosch University, South Africa.
'The Rooted in Naija program presents opportunities for a deeply immersive and enriching experience that can’t be replicated in the States. As a Nigerian-American who has navigated PWI’s for the majority of my life, I’m drawn toward the chance to embrace more concrete qualities of my culture and gain a reinvigorated appreciation for such an integral part of my identity. I also think it would be indispensable to be surrounded by other Nigerian-American young adults with similar shared experiences during the program.’
Ms Omoye Ehimare
Upperclassman, University of Southern California, USA.
